Review Of The Movie The Intern - 1773 Words

The movie that I had selected to watch is ‘The Intern’. It is a movie surrounding the life of a retired husband whose wife had died of old age. It is about a 70 year old man name Ben Whittaker coming out of retirement due to loneliness and felt the need to keep moving and fill that hole in his heart. He decided to work for a fashion company who are looking for senior interns run by Jules Ostin. Through a series of events, Jules and Ben had developed a trusting relationship with each other as businesses partners and friends. Jules would not only come to Ben for advice in regards to the company due to his many years of experience in business, she would also go to Ben for relationship advice. Ben had been in a business company for many years and through his experience, he was able to witness the leadership qualities that Jules had without her own knowledge. Though this movie is a heartfelt movie, it displays Jules great leadership skills on how she runs the company and moti vates her employees. In this assignment, I will be exploring Jules leadership within the company in positive and negative aspects. In the beginning Jules’ company was small but it quickly expanded as a result of the successful response from her customers. As a leader, she was able to influence her workers to achieve a common goal (Gentner, Module 11). She motivated her employees through trusting them, developed other leaders, and achieved results (Gentner, Module 11). Longest River Denial Essay Example For Students

Longest River: Denial Essay The Longest River: DenialA hallmark of someone who is engaging in this addiction pattern, but who has not accepted that their behavior is out of their control, is denial. Denial is a psychological defense mechanism that enables a person to continue to engage in a behavior in spite of relatively obvious negative consequences on their life. It’s a way to protect ourselves from seeing or feeling things that are unpleasant. In the case of the gambling addict, there may be repeated warnings from his or her spouse that they will not tolerate continued spending of household savings, job loss, and constant harassment by creditors. In light of this, the gambling addict will still deny that they have a problem with gambling and will believe that they have complete control over their actions. Denial permits one to distort reality, a very powerful psychological defense; it can have devastating consequences on our life, and the ability to disregard such negative consequences while continuing the behavior is a hallmark of denial. Denial is present, to some extent or another, in all addictions. It’s necessary, in the development of an addictive process, to experience a sense of denial while the addiction is beginning to take hold. Otherwise we would not continue with the addictive behaviors. Because of denial, the impact of our negative behavior is never fully appreciated until the consequences become so overwhelming that they can no longer be ignored. This is sometimes referred to as hitting bottom. People may continue their behavior indefinitely, with no recognition of the negative consequences of their actions, in spite of numerous personal disasters. Often an individual will not seek help for a specific problem, unless they’ve recognized that they are no longer in control of the situation and need help. This usually happens at a point when the negative impact of their addiction has become grossly obvious and their denial is broken. It is a process that cannot be rushed. Each person has to dis cover their own time frame for how and when to deal with their addiction. This, of course, can be very frustrating for family and friends of the addict, who often notice the problem long before the addict does. Negative consequences of Internet use vary considerably. I have been consulted on Internet cases where employees have been caught using their work computer for personal Internet access (in some cases wasting considerable company time and/or downloading sexually related material onto their computer). In some cases, individuals could be charged with sexual harassment as a consequence of exposing fellow employees to sexually explicit material against their will (even accidentally!). There may even be a legal liability for employers who allow (even unknowingly) their employees to use the company network to send personal email or other material that might be seen as objectionable by others. I’ve also seen numerous cases of couples with significant marital or relationship problems due to Internet abuse; at times even resulting in child custody investigations!Everyday I hear or receive stories of people who are getting into trouble with their online behavior at home or at work. It ma y take the form of abusing the Net by staying online longer than you had planned, having cybersex/cyberaffairs, or spending too much money online by gambling, stock trading, shopping, or auctioning. . I fear that as broadband access increases from the current 6% level, that we will see an increase in compulsive Internet use; The increase may occur because just as the faster modes of absorption of a drug increases the addictive potential a drug. Broadband Internet access could provide the hit in a much more rapid manner enabling a faster psychological impact and effect. This may translate into a more habit-forming experience. .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .postImageUrl , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:hover , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:visited , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:active { border:0!important; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:active , .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8 .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u733311736cc3a9444a86c66f828d85a8:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Student Support Programs And Extracurricular Activities EssayFew people, except for those who have had a problem, recognize the power and attraction of being online. Essay about the Revenue Manipulation

Question: Write an essay about the Revenue Manipulation. Answer: The issue involved in the case given is the case of the revenue management. In this, one of the ways of smoothing of the things or the reported earnings is undertaken by the help of manipulation of the real transactions. This could be achieved by the way of cutting down the discretionary costs such as that of the expenses like the advertising and the research and development. It is also true that there are many of the real problems for the companies such as the lesser amounts of the sales during the subsequent periods or the loss of the economic opportunities that results from the cutbacks in the discretionary spending (Revenue recognition, 2016). The revenue management is something that when it comes to the expenses, the companies understate the income statement so that there is an increased amount of the net income in the books of accounts. This is achieved through the deferring of the expenditures so as to include the expenses that occurs in the current year and wherein the firm can prop up the profits. These are the deferred expenses that includes the payments that have been made but will not be reported as an expense till the future period of accounting. The same is reported in the balance sheet till the asset expires. There are many of the expenses that are required to be charged to the statement of income. There are many of the companies that ignore the stated requirement and also helps in the capitalisation of the normal operating expense such as the assets and also helps in the amortisation of the stated expenses over the period of time. This helps in the reduction of the various expenses and gives a false impression of the improved earnings (Economic times, 2016). Many organizations considers the measures of accounting for the measurement to pay that frequently contents with the variety of different ad undesirable and unethical behaviours. The business press helps in the repleting with the stories about as to how the employees that are engaged in the dysfunctional and questionable ethical behaviours that are illegal in nature (Proformative, 2016). This helps in making themselves to look better on the evaluation of the performances and for the purposes of obtaining the bonuses. These are the behaviours that generally leads to the bias of the information or tin the co-ordination of the various activities to the game in the realisation of the various budgets or in the timing of the reported or the actual economic events for the purposes of shifting between the periods which is also termed as the earnings management (Walker, 2016). Ethical dilemma: In the given case, Susan wants to increase the profitability base so that an increased amount of the profit could be reported in the books of accounts she attempts to comply with this with the help of allocation of the base of the maintenance costs. This would lead to decrease in the amounts of the expenses and will show a higher amount of the profits. This is technically wrong and in fact is also ethically wrong (Academic, 2016). Larry on the other hand thinks that what she was asking him to do was wrong and did not comply with the same. Hence, he resigned but what he did was not right since he should have brought the above stated fact to light. The ethics involved in the stated is that of the earnings management or the manipulation of the earnings. Stakeholders: The stakeholders in this given case is the shareholders, the management of the company. Alternatives available to Larry: Instead of resigning, Larry should have brought these facts into light in front of these shareholders. Reason for choosing other alternatives: Resigning just because of a disagreement is never an option, he should have taken the above stated step. Conclusion: Larry should not have resigned. He should have brought the various things stated above in light in front of the management and the various other stakeholders. References: Academia.edu. Is Social Media Dangerous_ Essays - Articles, Digital Media

Tiffany Roberts Mr. D'Ambrosio CP ELA 12, Period 3 May 2, 2019 With the invention of the internet, a new tool for endless person and social advancement came with it. It is easy to see how the invention of the internet has advanced society in terms of math and science, personal development and made day to day life simpler and easier. It is also possible that over usage of this tool can lead to negative effects. The internet allows for online classes and universities for advancing education, helping to find jobs faster and easier, buying any product that comes to mind and having it delivered in days or minutes and connecting to those around and around the world. Many scientific advancements came about with computer programs with internet based servers to connect with others have contributed to projects such as the Orion test flights, the testing stages of human exploration to Mars, and the Google Lens, a product that monitors glucose levels in diabetics. (Larsen). Before social media and the internet became mainstream, the way to commu nicate with penpals around the world was through letters. Prior to children being taught to use the internet, pen pal projects were frequent and used letters, and then emails, as the internet became more accessible to schools. Email is an early form of social media, along with blogs, Six Degrees, and Friendster. (History Cooperative) Blogs have been replaced with vlogs, video blogs that serve the same purpose blogs have and still do. Six Degrees and Friendster are two forms of social media that are no longer used. For the purpose of this paper, social media will be defined as online communication. Social media also depends on user-generated content. This is why typical websites and blogs do not get included in the world of social media. There are only certain people that can post to these sites, and there are significant restrictions on the types of content that get uploaded. The typical social media that comes to mind such as Snapchat and Instagram have no restrictions, excluding pornographic and violent content. These forms of social media are user friendly and allow anyone who wishes to create an account to post. Social media's origin is considered to be Samuel Morse's first telegraph, which he sent in 1844 between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, as it was the first wireless connection to communicate. (History Cooperative) However, this origin does not meet the definition of social media mentioned previously. With the definition created before, the origin of social media would be in the 1970s, when the internet first came to the public, however most computers were much too expensive for the average household. (History Cooperative) It was not until the 1980s and 1990s that the internet became more mainstream. (History Cooperative) Six Degrees is created as the first social media outlet in 1997, and coming out of use in 2001. (History Cooperative) Friendster came about as competitor to Six Degrees in 2002, and remade itself in 2011 as a gaming site. (History Cooperative) These sites paved the way for other sites, such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many others. With these sites and apps, there are also dangers that come with it, such as identity theft, data misuse, oversharing, and malicious links. (Banerjee) As long as you have common sense while using the internet, it is a tool for recreation, work and other activities. Some social media and overall internet common sense is to avoid spam profiles, such as not adding account of people that are not personally known, not oversharing on social media profiles, and identifying fake apps, malware and suspicious links. (Banerjee) The overall lesson to be learned for social media is that if you don't know, don't completely trust it, or feel in any way suspicious to avoid it, not click on it, and move along. As for oversharing on a social media profile, this can contribute to avoiding a robbery, avoiding being hacked, and protecting personal information. (Internet Safety 101) Many young people and those who are new to the internet and social media feel the need to share every little detai l, however this can help aid hackers in guessing a password and security questions.

Your food is no longer raised naturally on farms, everything is in the factory. Famous fast food restaurants, such as McDonalds, used to have little factories in the back of their kitchens where they would make burgers on assembly lines. Fast food restaurant owners would hire people to have one objective, for instance, one person would put the hamburgers on the buns and put cheese on them, another person would put ketchup and mustard and pickles on the burger all day, and another would wrap the burgers all day. : That would allow the company to pay them less, and that made the employees very easy to replace. In 1970, the top 5 beef packaging companies controlled 25% of the market; today there are only the top 4 meat packaging companies (Tyson, Cargill, JABS, and National Beef) which control 85% of the market. You can go to the grocery store and go to the meat isle and you would see tons of different logos on the packaged meat, but all those logos belong mainly to these top four meat packaging companies. Tyson is the largest company. A lot of our meat and other produce today are larger than normal. That is because the chickens in factories are fed antibiotic infested feed which then goes to their system and makes them grow in a nearly 55% faster time-span. Instead of in a 3 months time, our chickens are fully grown in approximately 49 days. This is not farming, this is mass production. When the chickens are being processed, workers throw any part of the chicken onto the conveyer belt to be packaged and sent out. Even if the chickens are sick, the workers are to send those chickens to the processing plant also, regardless. Another main reason why we cant get naturally rowan produce is because farmers are not able to compete with these large companies, so they are forced to Join them and work for them. Farmers are to only use the also antibiotic infested seeds that the company provides to them. If the farmers try to use their own natural seeds that were harvested from the previous year, then the company could investigate them. The companies make the farmers continuously upgrade equipment and housings, which keep them taking money out of the bank, therefore keeping the in debt. Corn is a major product that is used in just about every produce. In the U. S. 30% of our land bases are used for corn harvesting. Farmers are paid to over produce corn, again, by mass production. Factories also use corn to feed to the cattle which isnt good because cows are grazers, meaning that they eat grass. With a high corn diet it creates a lot of coli in the cows system. Coli objects acid, which is in your stomach to digest food. This backs up the cattles digestive system and their anal passage is then clogged up with juiced fruits, and other produce. Coli could get into our system and cause heavy damage. It could result in kidney failure and excessive bloody diarrhea. The USDA United States Department of Agriculture) doesnt do much to prevent these issues because the same people who were in very high places in these food marketing companies are now working for the USDA. Animals are kept in bad conditions; they stand in their own manure, so once they are killed and hung on conveyer belts, the manure from their hooves get into the butchered meat, and thats how we get feces in our packaged food. Today, 1 in 3 Americans will get diabetes, on minorities it would be 2. Our food market has made the highly subsidized produce cheaper than the organics, leaving the option of good tasting, cheap food, easily accessible. Our food market is headed in the wrong direction. There are three main tastes: salt, fat, and sugar, which is everywhere. 1 in 3 Americans will get diabetes, on minorities it would be 2. But on top of that, organizations are fighting to keep Trans fat labels, calorie labels, and GYM labels off of their produce. 75% of produce in stores today are GYM, nothing is really organic anymore. So next time you buy something from the market, check your labels, and do your research because there is a lot more behind what you eat today than Just the taste, smell, and feel of the food.
